Louros N, et al. Nature Communications 13 (1):1351, 2022

In this paper, Nikos Louros mapped the sequence specificity of heterotypic amyloid interactions of tau to discover the rules of how tau amyloid aggregates engage with other proteins. Knowing these rules allowed identifying aggregation modifier proteins that promote tau fibril formation in cells (a mechanism that could potentially explain selective vulnerability to amyloid aggregates in neurodegenerative disorders) and selective and highly potent amyloid-inhibitors.

The paper was picked for the Nature Communications Editors Highlight list as one of the most interesting and important works in the “Structural biology, biochemistry and biophysics” section.
